Voice, Rudiments, Theory, Analysis, Harmony, and Counterpoint
I am a voice teacher who holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Vocal Performance (Board of Governor’s Medalist) and Education. I was a music educator with the Lambton Kent District School Board for 30 years, during which time I directed many award-winning choirs and musicals. My own pedagogy has evolved over my 25+ years of private teaching, and from my training with Roma Riddell (voice), Philip Adamson (piano), Nadia Marks (harp) and Richard Householder (choral conducting).
My students regularly participate in recitals, competitions, examinations, and community concerts and productions, singing classical repertoire as well as music theatre. My students have also been RCM and Conservatory Canada National and Provincial Gold Medalists, top prizewinners at OMFA in Classical Voice and Music Theatre, and they have been accepted into post-secondary music programmes at Eastman, University of Toronto, Laurier, Western, and UBC.
My long-time love of choral music developed during my years singing with the Ontario Youth Choir, the Gerald Fagan Singers, the Guelph Chamber Choir and the Windsor Classic Chorale. My choirs have been featured in concerts with the Windsor Symphony, Orchestra London, and at Western University, and I am a previous Music Director for Windsor-Essex Youth Choir.
In my community, I served as the Music Director for highly-acclaimed productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Beauty and the Beast, both at Chatham’s Capitol Theatre. I also organized a series of “Homecoming” Concerts/Masterclasses to mark the Chatham Kiwanis Music Festival’s 75th anniversary season, featuring former CKMF competitors: Dr. Benjamin Smith (Piano), Heather Kosik (Music Theatre), Ian Cleary (Tenor), and Jordan Clayton (Violin).
A Canada Council for the Arts grant recipient, I began my career in arts management in New York and in Toronto, working for Shaw Concerts, IMG Artists, and Hart-Murdock Artist Management, where I helped manage the careers of Catherine Robbin, Jon Kimura Parker and Richard Margison.
I look forward to helping the next generation of young singers achieve their full potential through thoughtful instruction and meaningful performance opportunities.
